My Girls

I have loved being the mother of two sons. God knew what He was doing when He entrusted us with boys.

Boys are fun.

Boys make funny noises.

Boys know how to make anything into a little putt putt car or a cowboy pistol with the appropriate sound effects.

Boys are rambunctious, adventuresome, imaginative.

Boys don't hold back any punches, you never know if they are going to walk up to you to hug you or slug you - at least when they are little.

Then all of a sudden they are driving. Not too mention dating. The song Sunrise, Sunset comes to mind.

(Tevye)
Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?

(Golde)
I don't remember growing older
When did they?

(Tevye)
When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?

(Golde)
Wasn't it yesterday
When they were small?

(Men)
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze

(Women)
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

(Tevye)
What words of wisdom can I give them?
How can I help to ease their way?

(Golde)
Now they must learn from one another
Day by day

(Perchik)
They look so natural together

(Hodel)
Just like two newlyweds should be

(Perchik & Hodel)
Is there a canopy in store for me?

(All)
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

Yes, it's been an interesting journey raising boys, one I would never never trade. But I have to say the best part has been watching them fall in love.

The photo above was taken in May 2010. Each of my sons had been dating the woman of their dreams for only a few short months - but somehow I knew, they were "MY girls". I couldn't have hand picked them any better. Amazing thing to watch God at work!

January 26,2011 we witnessed the nuptials of my youngest son Jake and his beautiful bride Alena.

In just a few short days ,April 7, 2012, we will witness the union of my oldest son Eric and his beautiful bride Katie.

There are no words to express what is in a mother's heart when she lets go of her son(s). The relinquishment of the throne - of being number one to now being number two - the rightful passage.

Time keeps on slipping into the future....it was just yesterday that we were a little family of four, and soon we will be a family of six. Time marches on.

Thank you Lord for the blessing of life and family, and for all the seasons of life.

Ecclesiastes 3

A Time for Everything

1 There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven—

2 A time to give birth and a time to die;
A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal;
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn and a time to dance.
5 A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing.
6 A time to search and a time to give up as lost;
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear apart and a time to sew together;
A time to be silent and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate;
A time for war and a time for peace.

And for us - a time to celebrate !

11 years ago...April 7th, 2001 we, too, got married! We have three wonderfully funny kids, but boy has it been really hard! I pray your kids have a much smoother road than ours! It is so nice to know that you like your daughter in-laws! I will be thinking about your family as we share this joyous time!
